What It Means
CMP, or Current Market Price, is the price at which a stock or contract last traded on the exchange. It's the reference figure shown next to a stock's ticker and used as the default starting point for placing an order.
Example
If you're looking to buy TCS and the screen shows a CMP of ₹4,120, that's the last price someone actually paid — not necessarily the price you'll get. During market hours the CMP updates continuously as new trades happen, so a market order placed a few seconds after you glanced at the screen can fill at a slightly different price, especially in a fast-moving stock.
