What It Means
An IOC (Immediate or Cancel) order fills whatever quantity is available right away at your specified price, and automatically cancels whatever part couldn't be filled instantly — instead of resting on the order book waiting for the rest.
Example
You place an IOC order for 500 shares. Only 300 are available at your price the moment it hits the exchange — those 300 fill immediately, and the remaining 200 are cancelled rather than left pending.
Warning
IOC guarantees speed, not size — don't assume the full quantity will fill just because the order type sounds decisive.
